(Primary Author/Editor) It’s like something out of Alanis Morisette’s “Ironic.”. At 8:33 a.m. on April 24, 32-year-old Courtney Ann Sanford posted “The happy song makes me HAPPY!”. on her Facebook. At 8:34 a.m., police received a call about her fatal crash, according to Huffington Post. Around 3 p.m. April 28, a Brookhaven College student flipped and totaled his car after driving into a lamppost (See the front-page story).

Last fall, Dallas-based alt-country band the Old 97’s head- ed to Austin with producer Salim Nourallah to record their tenth LP, “Most Messed Up.”. The album is an unruly, unfiltered and unadulterated flashback though the band’s last 20 years together. The opening track, “Longer Than You’ve Been Alive,” is a statement of what’s to come: “Most of our shows were a triumph of rock / Although some nights I might have been check- in’ the clock.”.

Generation Y. Generation Me. Millennials. These are just a few of the delineations that, according to the Pew Research Center, apply to the newest, current generation — the oldest are approaching 30; the youngest are approaching adolescence. However, the one term that makes me cringe the most is “20-somethings.”.

Jokers, smokers and midnight tokers rejoice – for the first time in American history, a majority of citizens are in favor of the legalization of marijuana. According to the latest Gallup poll, in the past year, support for the legalization of marijuana surged 10 points. A whopping 58 percent of Americans are in favor of legalizing the drug, and the momentum is not stopping any time soon.

It was a typical Thursday for Brookhaven student and Library Circulation Assistant Brandy Walthall. Her cats, Bourbon and Whiskey, woke her up around 9 a.m. She dragged herself out of bed, threw on a pair of khakis, a plain white T-shirt and black ballerina flats. She chugged a Red Bull, caught an 11 a.m. bus and arrived at Brookhaven around noon.

A flyer hung in a sea of colorful brochures and postings on the bulletin board outside my American Literature class. The flyer was for the Brookhaven College Counseling Center, offering free counseling to currently enrolled Brookhaven students. The bottom of the sheet had a single slip of paper with the counseling center’s phone number, the rest had been torn off.
